Top 3 things to consider with building an MVNO: Part 1 - Niche

Posted by Jennifer Shin on Dec 21, 2016 8:28:00 AM

In this three part series we are going to share with you the top three things to be considered when building out an MVNO.

Depending on your background, and who you talk to, there are differing opinions on what the nuts and bolts of building an MVNO consist of, it is all a matter of perspective. Based on BeQuick's years of focused experience in this exact area we will share this unique perspective from an industry leading MVNE's point of view.

There are three basic elements to create a successful foundation: Niche, Value & Reach.

In part 1, this post, we are going to discuss Niche.

Why you want to be a full MVNO

Posted by Jennifer Shin on Oct 23, 2015 9:00:00 AM

If you’re thinking of becoming a no-frills mobile service provider – or are already one -- you may find it tough to expand your opportunities and fatten your margins. It’s time to consider moving up the value chain to a full mobile virtual network operator (MVNO).

Sure, it’s no secret that no-frills MVNOs originally changed the mobile landscape and the low entry barrier made it easy for just about anyone to launch a mobile service provider. But as more and more discount MVNOs piled into crowded markets, competition got fiercer and prices got tighter. In many cases, struggling discounters got swept up by larger, better-funded MNOs. To make matters even more challenging discounters rely heavily upon the mobile network operator (MNO) to supply virtually all of the technology, network, and operational functionality. That makes it even harder for the discount service provider to switch MNO partners and move their subscribers to a more cost-efficient environment. No change, no gain.

Why MNOs are finding lots to love about MVNEs?

Posted by Jennifer Shin on Oct 20, 2015 8:30:00 AM

It can be expensive and tedious to enter new mobile markets, even for the bigger MNOs. That’s why they’re increasingly eager to play nice with MVNOs – they see them as a faster, easier, and more cost-efficient way to gain entrance to remote or niche markets that the mobile network operator might not normally be able to access or service effectively on their own.

However, MVNOs come in all sizes, shapes, and colors and some create more headaches than they’re worth when they don’t have the experienced staff, level of technological sophistication, and depth of resources necessary to integrate well with a national-level mobile network operator (MNO).

Enter the mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE).

The changing face of MVNEs

Posted by Jennifer Shin on Jul 14, 2015 9:59:03 AM

The mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) market continues to show signs of good health and growth – and that’s good news for mobile virtual network enablers (MVNEs), the providers that enable MVNOs to launch quickly and provision subscribers more easily.

The reason MVNEs can make life so much easier for MVNOs boils down to three crucial (and very attractive) benefits:

The MVNE/MVNO Relationship

Posted by Jennifer Shin on Feb 13, 2015 8:46:00 AM

With Valentine’s Day on many people’s minds, this might be a good time to continue talking about relationships, which I started in my previous post, only this time it’s the relationship between an MVNO and an MVNE (that’s us). After all, behind most successful MVNOs stands an MVNE lending a helping hand.

What makes this kind of relationship so valuable is the ability of an MVNE, or mobile virtual network enabler, to take away many of the pains associated with back office and front-end operational activities through a comprehensive, turn-keyBSS/OSS platform built specifically for mobile. This is especially valuable for a postpaid MVNO/MVNE relationship because of the BSS/OSS complexity involved deploying a postpaid customer management platform that can include managing provisioning, mediation, rating, customer care, billing, and other back-office services. A prepaid platform, of course, has its own challenges as well, including the need to actively track customer usage in real time to avoid service disruption and an unfavorable customer experience.

Carrier Gateway: The Key to Reliable Connectivity

Posted by Jennifer Shin on Nov 14, 2014 8:48:00 AM

The heart of any mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is its ability to provide its subscribers with a robust and reliable connection to a mobile network operator (MNO). Without a solid carrier gateway and reliable connectivity an MVNO has neither the reason nor the ability to exist.

Gain more network control with the right MVNE and platform

If you’re a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) you know how hard it can be to strike the right balance between support and dependence with your mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE). While your MVNE supplies you with the infrastructure and connectivity you need to do what you do, it’s important for you to retain as much control as possible over your network operations.

Choosing the right MVNE

Posted by Jennifer Shin on Oct 13, 2014 11:00:00 AM

Behind every good mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) stands an equally good mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE). Without the proper mobile infrastructure and back office support, it’s difficult – if not impossible – for an MVNO to succeed. That’s why choosing the right MVNE is a critical fundamental step in launching a strong MVNO.
